Yesterday was the Super Bowl of Fashion, the first Monday of May, the best red carpet night ever. Yesterday was the 2016 Met Gala, and the theme this year was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. I was curious to see how designers would interpret this theme. It seems as though many interpreted it as metallics while others thought it referenced laser cutouts. I think by far the two designers that really nailed the concept and were extremely innovative in their designs were Zac Posen and Marchesa. Did you see Claire Danes channeling a modern day Cinderella twirling in her sparkly dress that her designer godfather Zac Posen made for her? Or Karlina Kurkova whose dress literally reacted to your social media emotions? Simply magnificent.
The moment I saw Claire Danes appear on Zac Posen’s IG I fell in love. Sheer brilliance. And then look at how stunning Karolina Kurkova looked in her Marchesa gown. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig knocked it out of the park with this one. I surely did love this one so I hope I helped light her dress up. Thanks to the video posted on Karolina Kurkova’s IG, fans got to see the technology behind this beautiful gown.
And now on to everyone else…..
Everyone waited to see what Beyonce would wear this year, and this year she went with a custom-made Givenchy latex dress. Guess she figured why ruin a good thing.LOL! Some memes have popped up on Instagram asking was she wearing Becky’s skin last night. HAHAHAHAHA! Anywho, this wasn’t a favorite of mine, but it did land her on the best dress list of many fashion websites. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (who decided to wear jeans and colored contacts) were one of the last to arrive, and they both wore custom made Balmain of course. Speaking of Balmain, I loved his girls. My favorite of course for the evening was Jourdan Dunn. Slay Jourdan Slay! Also in Balmain: Joan Smalls, Cindy Crawford, Doutzen Kroes, and Alessandra Ambrosio. One of my favorites of the night besides co-chair Idris Elba in his Tom Ford was Zayn Malik in Versace. His armor was everything. His date Gigi Hadid wore Tommy Hilfiger. Zoe Kravitz looked like a haute butterfly to me in Valentino, and Zoe Saldana strutted her feathers in a peacock inspired Dolce and Gabbana gown. Solange wore an interesting pleated yellow number, and Rita Ora took my breath away in Vera Wang. Kerry Washington showed off her bump in Marc Jacobs and Blake Lively preferred Burberry. Did I mention that I loved Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace, and had to do a doube take when I saw Lupita Nyong’o and Katy Perry. Co-Chair Taylor Swift wore Louis Vuitton, and I loved Julie Macklow in Philipp Plein. Her metallic jumpsuit was tinman on couture steroids, but my other favorite metallic girl might just be Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa. Speaking of metallics and gunmetal Naomi Watts in Burberry, Naomi Campbell in Cavalli Couture, Pyper America Smith in H&M, Brie Larson in Proeenza Schouler, and Laren Santo Domingo in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture decided to wear this trend as well. A few dolls preferred white (not sure how some tied in with the theme) like Jennifer Hudson in H&M, Karlie Kloss in Brandon Maxwell, Halsey in DKNY, and Rosie Hungtingon-Whiteley in Ralph Lauren. Gasp! Me no likey Sarah Jessica Parker in Monse. The siblings were out too. The Jenner girls were there. Kendall wore Atelier Versace while Kylie stuck with the family favorite Balmain. P.S. Only one made best dressed and that was Kendall. The Smith kids came out as well. Jaden wore Louis Vuitton and Willow wore Chanel. And don’t forget about the Olsen twins. Madanna in Givenchy and Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace both showed legs. I preferred Gaga. Ciara wore customed H&M and channeled the 20s. The beading was amazing last night. Kate Bosworth wore Dolce & Gabbana, and Rachel McAdams wore Valentino. Other shimmering moments belonged to Siena Miller in Gucci and Zendaya in Michael Kors. Curious to see your thoughts on Michelle Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Alicia Vikander, and Miranda Kerr in Louis Vuitton. Oh, and what in the world was Nicki Minaj wearing? And this is just a few.
