Who am I becoming? At the tender age of 37, I’m now looking for a plant to love on. Blame it on Quarantine. Blame it on my recent visit to my sister, and P falling in love with her orchid named Penelope. Or maybe it’s my friend’s obsession with plants. Or blame it on a random person from Instagram that I follow who recently purchased a plant from Bloomscape. Who knows….. But either way, 9 weeks later, and I want a plant.

When we bought our home, the previous owners left us with their plant babies, a cactus and an aloe vera plant, and we were so happy for them. I must admit I’ve been struggling to keep them alive but whatever. I don’t have a green thumb whatsoever, but I’m willing to try because P wants her own. Secretly, I do as well, and I have the perfect corner in our living room for our soon to be plant baby.

Things I’m looking for

Plants that are good for new plant mommies
Plants that are low maintenance
Plants that are good in mid to low light
Plants that are esthetically cute to me (lol)

Let’s go on a plant adventure…..

I found some great resources to start my plant adventure like 10 Plants for First Time Plant Parents on House Beautiful, Bloomscape, and Ansel and Ivy Each site offering me information like how easy is the plant to maintain, where should I place it, how much water should I give it, light preferences, toxicity, and will it clean my air. All the things I didn’t even know I needed to know essentially.

I narrowed my choices down to a few:

Money Tree (No fuss. Good for first timers. Low to partial light.)
Snake Plant (Great for a newbie. Great in any light. Water moderately. Does great anywhere.)
Bamboo Palm (No fuss. Low to bright indirect light. Nontoxic.)
Birds of Paradise (Easy. Partial to bright.)
